What I read this week

I am reading through the New Testament this summer with Christ Church Bible Reading Challenge.  This past week we read through the book of Luke.  One thing that I both parts like and dislike about this challenge is that it goes in a random order of books.  For example we began in the book of John (first with the Gospel of John and then 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John followed), then scampered over to Ephesians through Colossians and then frog hopped back to the Gospel of Matthew.  I like it because it is a different perspective, I dislike it because it feels completely random when I am reading one day in Colossians and the next day in Matthew.

Catch-up days are for either catching up or re-reading some of the smaller books, so you could read the book of Galatians three times over the course of June-August. I have been tracking my reading on my Inst*gram channel, as I make either a Bible Journal page or an index card to reflect on my reading.

Chasing the Falconers (On the Run book # 1) by Gordon Korman

Read this after one of my teens read it and it is REALLY good.  Hooks you from the first paragraph...can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Ben and Me by Robert Lawson

I have only seen the Disney cartoon version of this before, glad I took the time to read the book it is based on.  It is SUPER cute.  I wish I had read this aloud when my kiddos were younger.

Carols and Spies by Jennifer Kropf

OK, so I first heard about this Winter Soul series when someone in the Brighter Winter Challenge posted on Inst*gram about it.  I have LOVED this series SO SO SO much.  I cannot wait for the entire series to come out on Audible (I have the kindle versions, but think I want to own the paperbacks too!)  I was SO very excited when I heard the author was publishing a collection of Novellas that dove further into some of the characters.  This book starts off with how the underground cathedral began, and then how and when Prince Edward decided he did not want to become King of the Pines...and then there are three more sweet, sweet chapters that make you fall in love with this series even more.  I loved this one as much as the original four.

Hotel Flamingo: Holiday Heatwave by Alex Milway

We listened to this book (the second book in the Hotel Flamingo collection) and LOVED it.  Super, super cute.

  1. Your Bible reading plan sounds interesting. I sometimes like to read the Bible in a random order. It does give you a different perspective, but I understand what you mean about the randomness of it. I loved Ben and Me and did read it aloud to my kids. Carols and Spies sounds intriguing.

    1. I hope you are having a great summer! I hope you get to read the Dani Pettrey Alaskan Courage series too! And I have really loved the Winter Soul series. What's been your favorite book so far this year?

    2. That's a tough one! I recently enjoyed The Prince Edward Island Dreams series by Liz Johnson. It is Christian Contemporary Romance, which isn't my usual genre, but it's kind of like Dani Pettrey's stories, only without the crime 😂. I also read the first two books in the Sackett series by Louis L'Amour and really enjoyed them. Hope you are having a great summer!
