The Crushing Depths

by Dani Pettrey

I mentioned this in my last post, but this series has been on my TBR list ever since reading Gretchen's review of the first one (I think this past fall?).

This time around, I felt a little more comfortable with the main characters...until she mentioned Brooke.  And I felt like I should know who Brooke was, but truly I had NO idea who Brooke was.  (Come to find out, I should have!  She was in the last book).

I love Dani's writing style, she has a talent for keeping you in suspense without developing that dreaded drama-fatigue that weighs down a story-line like a wet noodle.  I love her faith, which plays prominently in her writing, I love that you get a glimpse into what different characters are thinking as they say and do things.  I love her writing style and book flow...

But what I did not love about this book was the ending.  I felt like it was super rushed and kind of confusing for how it wrapped up. I mean she didn't leave it open and hanging so that you have to read the next book to find out who did it (remember when that became so popular a while ago in movies and books?).  But neither did it develop and unfold in pace with the first portion of the book.  I read this on kindle so I was at the end before I knew I was at the end.

All-in-all, LOVE this author.  I cannot wait to read book three.

  1. I remember feeling the same way you did in this one - like I missed something. But it all worked out in the end. I love the faith she writes into her stories as well.
