I totally love the name Flufferton Abbey. (Click on the name to follow the link to this week's challenge as well to find out what in the world Flufferton Abbey is, if like me, you had never heard of this term before this post).
I chose to read the next K.M. Shea, Swan Lake for this week's challenge. I LOVE K.M. Shea. She has done a fabulous job rewriting the fairytales, publishing them in a series called "Timeless Fairytales".
I love her character development, her unique take on the stories that preserves the original intent, and her ability to paint a picture that draws you in and deposits you right next to an enchanted lake or a mystical castle. Her stories are in short enchantingly whimsical.
She writes with clarity and humor :
" “You’ve got to come. The best adventures I’ve had have been with just the three of us,” Yakov said. “Funny,” Benno said. “All of my worst memories have involved the two of you.” "
She paints a beautiful picture of integrity and compassion :
" “I see what you mean, but you don’t need to take everything on as a personal burden.” Alexsei kept his voice gentle. “It’s a danger of being a leader. I’ve heard my father speak to Yakov about it countless times. It’s hard not to blame yourself for the calamities that happen to your people... "
I am SO thankful that she has written this series and highly recommend it!!
P.S. I also pre-read The Tail of Emily Windsnap and re-listened to The Shadow Throne (by Jennifer Nielsen).
