Mint Juleps, Mayhem, and Murder

by Sara Rosett

I chose this book for my May read.  Mint Julips are the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, I grew up in Kentucky, so when I saw this title...I knew I had to read this one as my May mystery pick!

I have read a few of Sara Rosett's books and she is such a fantastic cozy mystery author.  Funny enough, both of my book choices this week are by her!

OK, so the last time I caught up with Ellie Avery, was last year when I read her Mother's Day, Muffins, and Murder.  I love this series and am sad that I haven't revisited it sooner.

This book picks up at Ellie and Mitch's home, during a family reunion of the Avery clan.  Ellie is slightly overwhelmed trying to keep everyone's name straight.  When Mitch gets a call that his squadron commander is touch-and-go at the hospital and then when one of his own relatives needs 911...the day becomes a bit more harried than expected.

When I was a little girl and any kind of emergency took place, this quote is EXACTLY what I think the other families and friends gathered in waiting rooms at the hospital felt like:

"We entered the waiting room, which had been taken over by the Avery family.  There were three other people who weren't relatives gathered in one corner and they looked slightly bewildered at the Avery throng dominating the room.  I knew exactly how they felt.  The Avery family could be a bit...overwhelming."

So, will Ellie solve the mystery this time around?  Because as each chapter unfolds, another thread untangles and the mystery becomes that much more convoluted.

Highly recommend!
