Have you ever heard of Jenny B. Jones? She is one of my favorite authors. I have read and re-read her earlier series too many times to count. She has a few stand alones that I have on kindle, but until now they have never been available on Audible. Save the Date is one of those books and it came out on Audible this month.
I think it has been a year or so since I have visited Lucy and Alex and man have I missed these characters. Lucy is a girl with a heart of gold, fashioned through pain, loss. and rejection. But, God used that to shape a heart for young women that the world would otherwise just toss aside and prefer to forget. Alex is the golden boy - ex-NFL player, now running for a hotly contested congressional seat in the midst of navigating the disappearance of his twin brother Will. In an awkward moment of desperation Lucy finds herself willing to pose as Alex Sinclair's girlfriend, while he promises money and security for her foundation if she will help ground his image and erase the playboy, eye candy persona most people have him pegged for. This is a cute rom-com, one of my absolute favorite books. Although it ended up tying into two other books - There You'll Find Me and His Mistletoe Miracle, you can totally read this as a stand alone book (that is how I originally read it).
Forgotten God by Francis Chan.
Wow - this book has consumed my thoughts almost constantly this past week. This is an amazing book about the Holy Spirit, I listened to it (it was narrated by Francis Chan himself) and it was so, so good. I discovered Francis Chan while he was still ministering in Simi Valley, CA. I remember listening to his sermons and their church was in the middle of raising funds to build a new building. But then Francis and his board of elders started examining the Scriptures and asking themselves - why doesn't our church resemble Acts 2:42-47? It was amazing to listen to his process over the next year or so - to where they reached the point that all they wanted was to seek God and to obey what He was calling them to. I think this book may have been written close to that same period of time.
I started several books this week but these two were the ones that I finished. I am so glad that the others did not work out, otherwise I would have missed the sweet blessing of visiting "friends" from stories that I have adored and the amazing blessing of listening to Francis Chan narrate his book about the importance of the Holy Spirit. Highly recommend both.
I have not heard of Jenny B. Jones, but it sounds like I need to look her up. It is always so comforting to return to a favorite author. I believe I have listened to Forgotten God as well. It has been a couple of years, but I remember being really impacted by it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Insanity for God. I'll have to look it up.
