Sunday Check-In

This past week I felt SO SO SO much better.

Which leads me right into what I am so deeply thankful for...

1) Getting up when it is still dark and turning on my "fireplace" heater
2) Reading and listening to good books
3) Baking banana bread with walnuts
4) Peppermint hot chocolates in Christmas cups
5) A week of no appointments
6) My husband still worked from home a few days this past week 💖
7) Setting up the kitchen counters so that we can do Bento style meals to help with portion control and eating a variety of foods...instead of the same thing over and over and over again
8) Frozen bagels heated up - the crunch as you spread the knife over the toasted surface
9) Cinnamon stick candles
10) Feeling better with less coughing and more energy
11) Vitamin C gummies (whoever made these - THANK YOU so much)
12) The sound of rain, especially following an especially dry season
13) The crunch of leaves
14) Getting to wear my beloved grey sweater again
15) Watching cleaning Instagram videos (does anyone else LOVE this inspiration?!?!)  My favorites are Vanesa Amaro and Cat Ben
16) Beginning to see more and more Christmas decorations go up 🎄

This past week we chose our Advent study, we start a week or two early, because inevitably we always end up behind.  We are going to do Kari Denker's The Promises study.

My daily Bible is in Romans and since I read aloud from this...I am getting to read through Romans again, this time aloud.  I LOVE getting to read the Word aloud - it is a different experience than just reading it quiestly to yourself or hearing it or studying it.

The first hymn/carol we are going to learn is "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlmen".  Every year, it seems like one carol defines the Christmas season we are in...whether we just hear it every single time we turn around, or the lyrics speak deeply to our hearts, "that" song becomes so special to us during the Christmas season.  And much like we can name seasons of our girls' lives/growing up by the books we read (ex. that was the Castle Glower season, or the Mysterious Benedict Society season), we can name Christmases by the carols.  We had an "Oh Holy Night" Christmas season, an "Away in a Manger" Christmas season, a "Do You Hear What I Hear" Christmas season...I am curious to know what we will call this season.

Wishing you guys a beautiful week...this week I hope to get caught up in the Bible Study I was doing with my mom.  I am at least three weeks behind.

  1. So glad to hear you are feeling much better. I agree with you about reading Scripture out loud. I do this when I am working on memorizing it. It helps it stick in my brain so much better. I enjoyed reading your thankful list again, but now I'm hungry and need a bagel and some hot chocolate. 😊☕
