This is the second book by Jen Wilkin that I have read. The first was gifted to me a few years ago and I finally read it earlier this year (Women of the Word). It was awesome! So, when given the opportunity to read another one of hers (In His Image), I was excited.
This week has been a wonky week in my house. My entire house has been taken down by a yucky cold. It isn't as bad as COVID, but it's been a pain in the scotcher. At the beginning of the week I finished the Winter Soul series because I was still feeling ok, but exhausted. So I scooched in close to my girls and read while they napped and/or watched movies. But by Tuesday I woke with a scratchy throat. Wednesday came the coughing and the stuffy nose and I just didn't feel like reading at all. But each day I have been working through In His Image ...so I picked it back up today determined to finish it.
It is so good.
If you have ever struggled to understand law and grace - how mercy and justice meet and go hand in hand with grace...this is an EXCELLENT book (chapters 4,5, & 6 address these and are my favorite chapters!!). Each chapter takes an aspect of God's character and delves into it. Jen Wilkin is an excellent teacher, she accurately handles the Word while also taking the time to explain each concept and precept. She includes scriptures at the end of each chapter for you to look up and study/memorize/ &/or meditate on as well as questions to answer and a sample prayer.
I highly recommend this book.

from pg. 90:
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. (Titus 2:11–14 NIV)
pg. 91
If grace is seen only as a free gift to cover our sins and not also as a means to growing in holiness, we will grow lax in our obedience.
pg. 92
take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability.
